Giovanni Montini, MD, is a Consultant Pediatric Nephrologist and is currently Chief of the Pediatric Nephrology and Dialysis Unit of the Department of Pediatrics at Sant’Orsola-Malpighi University Hospital in Bologna, Italy. He began his career in the Pediatric Department of the University Hospital in Padua, Italy and has also worked at various institutions abroad including Guy’s Hospital and Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children in London.

He is an accomplished researcher, member of various national and international study groups and advisory committees including that of the Excellence in Pediatrics Institute and the European Society for Pediatric Nephrology and he is currently the President of the Italian Society of Pediatric Nephrology. He has published over 100 peer-reviewed manuscripts in international journals and is also a member of the editorial boards of specialist journals in the field, such as Pediatric Nephrology, Case Reports in Pediatrics, the Journal of Nephrology, the Scientific World Journal. He is also a referee for many other international scientific journals. For many years he has been an invited speaker at numerous national and international congresses, he also participates in training workshops for pediatricians all over the world.

As well as his current didactic activities as lecturer at the School of Specialization in Pediatrics and the School of Specialization in Nephrology at Sant’Orsola University Hospital, he also does frequent voluntary work with underprivileged children with kidney disease, especially in South America with an international cooperation network. His areas of expertise include renal transplantation, urinary tract infections, urinary tract malformations, chronic and end stage renal damage, nephropathy in mitochondrial diseases.
